Evangelist In Town

Sunday evening Sept 6th, we attended a kick off service for a four night evangelistic outreach to the village of Emmonak. It was held at the Yukon Delta Assembly of God church with the three remaining services being held in the Emmonak City Complex (the same facility we went to for the native dancing stuff). The evangelist was Tiff Shuttlesworth associated with the Lost Lamb World Tour. He has visited some 26 countries over the past several years providing an excellent concert and gospel message. Here are some pictures of the first evening at the churh. Tiff is the red headed fellow holding a mic singing. We will being going back tomorrow evening for the last concert and have invited several folks from the school.

Native Welcome Dance

On Friday Aug 28th, we were treated by the village with some traditional native dancing. The purpose was to honor the new and returning teachers and staff at the school. Tradition calls for gifts to be given. We ended up receiving as a family, a jump rope, a bungie cord, 2 bath towels and a fleece blanket!! Our grandson, Lucas, was right in the middle of things and seemed to really enjoy himself. The following pictures show the elders playing the drums while the women and girls of all ages danced. The one picture with the old gentleman sitting in a chair, is the oldest elder in the village. Come rain or shine he walks the entire village each day and visits all the public locations like he is checking things out. Even thou he only speaks Yupik, he does a great job communicating via his facial expressions and actions.
