Off to Numam from Alakanuk.

Notice the erosion on the banks of the Yukon. During spring breakup and flood season, the water line is all the way up to the tree-line.

Here is the new school in Euman (Sheldon Point) which is basically right at the mouth of the Yukon River. Here I am upon arrival to Numam. It was sunny but still about 40 degrees on the river.

Money is available for nice facilities in the bush school system. Notice the nice gym, library and well equipped science lab. Even with all the best equipment and good teachers, the villagers still do not see a real need for formal education so they do nothing to encourage their children to apply themselves in learning.

Ray knows all the shortcuts home via the many tributaries and slews off the Yukon River.
We pass one of many barges on the Yukon full of supplies etc to the villages along the shores.

Here we see the Co-op store so we know we are home in Emmonak at last.

Sunday 8/16/2009 my son Bob returns to Emmonak with his wife Jodi and son Lucas to start their big adventure in the Alaskan bush country to live and teach.
